My Projects
Written Work and Analysis
Newsletters
For my job with National Agricultural Biosecurity Center at Kansas State University, I am tasked with designing and authoring a monthly newsletter. AgriGate is designed to inform midwestern farmers and ranchers about current and upcoming threats to agriculture. I cover topics from crop disease to issues of national and global security, all pertaining to agriculture.

I designed this newsletter from the ground up. When I started in April of 2024, I had very little to go off of and this project became my 'brain child.' With every new addition, the newsletter improves. Along with the design elements, I am responsible for all of the research and writing for each addition.

You can access the AgriGate newsletters by following the link to the National Agricultural Biosecurity's website, tapping on 'Projects,' and scrolling to the section labeled 'Recent Projects.'
Policy Briefs
Through my course work in Agricultural Economics, I have been able to practice writing policy briefs. I have enjoyed this more analytical (rather than journalistic) writing style along with being able to dive deeper into policies affecting farmers and ranchers.

This policy brief is about parity pricing. I was tasked with writing this piece as if I was 'informing a Senator about parity prices, how they are used, how they are calculated, etc.'

Social Media
My twin sister and I (shoutout Jenna) manage the social media pages for the family cattle business, Lazy F Livestock. The Lazy F brand has been in the family for multiple generations and we are the first to bring it to social media.

With the creation of reels and other posts, we have garnered a following of over 500. The post with the highest engagement received over 2,000 views and 800 likes. Admittedly, I have not posted as regularly as I would like, but I have plans to make a posting schedule and use our social media pages (Instagram and Facebook) as a better marketing tool in the future.

Using Social Media to Advertise Cattle
Every fall my family and I typically sell one to two heifer calves at the Annual Red Angus Sale during the NILE in Billings, MT and the Bet on Red sale during the Western National Red Angus Show in Reno, NV.
This year we sold one heifer in Reno and I was in charge of generating social media posts to help advertise the sale and our heifer.

I created the caption for this post, but I did not do the videography or photography. Creating captions on social media posts for sale cattle (or writing the foot notes for a catalog) are very fun for me, and I always enjoy the process!

For this post, I took the video and wrote the caption. This was posted the night before the sale, so I was also responsible for responding to comments and messages regarding the heifer and the sale.
Sharing My Story
Beef It's What's For Dinner created a social media campaign where beef producers could share their story of why they are in, and continue to be in the beef industry under the hashtag #mycattlecalling. I took this chance to share my 'why' of being in the cattle industry.

I have a passion for sharing my story about my involvement in the beef industry. When my family ranch was sold in 2017, it affected my outlook on my future and I doubted my place in the cattle industry. I had a newfound conviction to continue in the industry, but didn't know how. I find great enjoyment in life through not only sharing my 'why' of being involved in the cattle industry, but also listening to others do the same.

Progressive Publishing
I am currently working as an editorial intern for Progressive Publishing, contributing to the Progressive Cattle and Ag-Proud Idaho magazines. In this role, I research and write feature articles, interview cattle producers and industry experts, and help develop content for both print and digital platforms. My coverage focuses on timely issues impacting the beef industry, such as drought conditions, livestock health threats like New World Screwworm, cattle market trends, and international trade developments.
This experience is sharpening my skills in agricultural journalism, deepening my understanding of the livestock industry, and giving me the opportunity to tell the stories that matter to producers across the country. I work closely with editors and contributors to produce fact-based, producer-focused reporting that supports and informs the agricultural community.
