Written Work and Analysis
Newsletters
For my job with National Agricultural Biosecurity Center at Kansas State University, I am tasked with designing and authoring a monthly newsletter. AgriGate is designed to inform midwestern farmers and ranchers about current and upcoming threats to agriculture. I cover topics from crop disease to issues of national and global security, all pertaining to agriculture.

I designed this newsletter from the ground up. When I started in April of 2024, I had very little to go off of and this project became my 'brain child.' With every new addition, the newsletter improves. Along with the design elements, I am responsible for all of the research and writing for each addition.

You can access the AgriGate newsletters by following the link to the National Agricultural Biosecurity's website, tapping on 'Projects,' and scrolling to the section labeled 'Recent Projects.'
Policy Briefs
Through my course work in Agricultural Economics, I have been able to practice writing policy briefs. I have enjoyed this more analytical (rather than journalistic) writing style along with being able to dive deeper into policies affecting farmers and ranchers.

The first policy brief is about parity pricing. I was tasked with writing this piece as if I was 'informing a Senator about parity prices, how they are used, how they are calculated, etc.' The second brief analyzes the differences between two trade agreements: NAFTA and the USMCA.

Sharing My Story
Beef It's What's For Dinner created a social media campaign where beef producers could share their story of why they are in, and continue to be in the beef industry under the hashtag #mycattlecalling. I took this chance to share my 'why' of being in the cattle industry.

I have a passion for sharing my story about my involvement in the beef industry. When my family ranch was sold in 2017, it affected my outlook on my future and I doubted my place in the cattle industry. I had a newfound conviction to continue in the industry, but didn't know how. I find great enjoyment in life through not only sharing my 'why' of being involved in the cattle industry, but also listening to others do the same.

Progressive Publishing
This past summer I worked as an editorial intern for Progressive Publishing, contributing to the Progressive Cattle and Ag-Proud Idaho magazines. In this role, I researched and authored feature articles, interview cattle producers and industry experts, and help develop content for both print and digital platforms. My topical coverage focuses on timely issues impacting the beef industry, such as drought conditions, livestock health threats like New World Screwworm, cattle market trends, and international trade developments.
This experience is sharpened my skills in agricultural journalism, deepening my understanding of the livestock industry, and giving me the opportunity to tell the stories that matter to producers across the country. I worked closely with editors and contributors to produce fact-based, producer-focused reporting that supports and informs the agricultural community.
Layout & Design
This section showcases my layout and design experience through hands-on class projects focused on real-world documents. In my design courses, I worked on assignments that involved designing or redesigning portions of materials like a conference program and a partial livestock sale catalog. These projects gave me the chance to think through how information is organized and how design choices impact readability and flow.

Using Adobe InDesign as my primary layout tool, along with Illustrator and Photoshop for graphics and image editing, I focused on typography, spacing, and visual hierarchy to create clean, easy-to-follow layouts. Each project was completed within specific class guidelines, deadlines, and existing brand constraints, similar to what you’d encounter in a professional setting.

While these pieces were created for class, they reflect practical design skills and an understanding of how to turn content into polished, print-ready materials—skills I continue to build and apply in my work within agricultural communications.
